WHO: Conductor John Varineau, the Grand Rapids Symphony, and special guests Song of the Lakes present “Lake Songs, Symphony at Fountain Point”

WHAT: The Grand Rapids Symphony makes its debut on the Leelanau Peninsula with a special performance for cottagers and summer visitors. Audience members can bring a picnic basket and a blanket and indulge their appetites for summer entertainment. The orchestra will perform favorites perfect for a summer evening, including selections from: Handel’s Water Music, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 and Haydn’s Symphony No. 73.

Fountain Point on Lake Leelanau, the historic 1889 waterfront resort welcomes you to a summer season filled with great performances. This inaugural program features the Interlochen String Quartet. The program will consist of string quartets by Beethoven, Opus 18, #3, Shostakovich Quartet #1,Opus 49, and the romantic Puccini quartet “Chrysanthemums”. Cellist Crispin Campbell, Artistic Director of the Fountain Point Music Series, will be joined by Interlochen violist Rene Skerik, violinist Eric Lawson, Concertmaster/Conductor of the Alpena Symphony and violinist Stephanie Arado, assistant concertmaster of the Minnesota Orchestra. This performance was recorded on Sunday June 9, 2013.
